It involves administering a local anesthetic to numb the lower half of your body, providing efficient reducing of the pain, all the while allowing you to remain awake and actively participate in the birth of your precious young one.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u201eEpidural\u201c and \u201eLight Spinal\u201c are the medications we could use to ensure a painless childbirth. After getting to know the benefits of this method of anesthesia, many women prefer and choose an epidural anesthesia. The procedure itself is performed by inserting a very thin needle between the 4th<\/sup> and 5th<\/sup> vertebrae and injecting a combination of an anesthetic and an analgetic. It could be done by placing a thin catheter in the epidural area, which would allow us to continually or occasionally administer medicine in several doses.<\/p>

\u00a0 Epidural anesthesia can be used to relieve pain in the first and second phase of the childbirth process. It would obtain maximal results around 20 min after administering the medication and the patient would feel the contractions getting less and less painful. It would eventually block out any pain because the medication numbs the nerves. The anesthesia would lose its effect after a few hours. Many moms-to-be are considering this procedure but they are unsure due to stories of consequences they have heard or fear of the procedure itself.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

PROs:<\/strong><\/p>

  • very efficient against pain during childbirth, C-section delivery and other operations;<\/li>
  • efficient against pain during a spontaneous delivery when forceps would be used;<\/li>
  • useful during a C-section delivery, allowing the mum to be awake during the intervention;<\/li>
  • makes long and hard delivery easier;<\/li>
  • reduces blood pressure, which is favorable for patients with high blood pressure during pregnancy<\/li>
  • excluding the pain, but keeping you awake, it gives you the chance to fully experience the memorable act of giving birth to new life;<\/li>
  • has been in use as a pain reliever for many years;<\/li>
  • can be used in other OB\/GYN interventions and surgical operations;<\/li><\/ul>

    CONs:<\/strong><\/p>

    • there could be slight headache, but it would subside in a few hours;<\/li>
    • there could be a drop of the blood pressure (but you would be constantly monitored by a doctor);<\/li>
    • there could be nausea or vomiting (but you would be constantly monitored by a doctor);<\/li>
