ICSI

ICSI is a modification of the classical IVF procedure. During IVF, the spermatozoids should fertilize the egg cells on their own, i.e. it is considered a spontaneous merging of two gametes. ICSI is performed using high tech equipment, a special microscope and a micro manipulator attached to it. One egg cell is selected and one spermatozoid is injected directly into the egg cell, thus fertilizing it.

A question often asked is: Is there risk for the baby conceived with this method?

The first baby conceived with the ICSI procedure was born in 1992. This is a procedure that is performed around the world and it has been proven that there is no increased risk for abnormalities and birth defects in children conceived with this method.
